Content Guidelines

These guidelines cover the kind of content that is and isn't allowed on Lightspeed.

Note that this is not a legal document and is provided only as a guide to the types of content we allow. Although we aim to allow as much content as possible, we still reserve the right to remove offending content at any time and for any reason.

We're more of a platform than a publisher. For the most part you're free to stream whatever you want, but to ensure a safe (and legal) environment we do have restrictions on the following types of content.

Hate Speech and Harassment

  • Doxxing (leaking someone's personal information)
  • Hate speech based on things like race, sexuality, gender, or disability
  • Other targeted harassment against an individual or group

Debating or critiquing someone is fine, but we draw the line when it comes to serious, excessive harassment.

Violence, Terrorism and Graphic Content

  • Genuine threats or encouragement of violence
  • Promoting or recruiting for terrorist groups
  • Planning or broadcasting a violent act of terrorism
  • Torture, gore, animal abuse or self-harm
  • Sexual abuse or exploitation
  • Other extremely graphic content

Note that this doesn't include fictional content such as violence or gore in video games, as long as it's made clear to your viewers that the events aren't real and they couldn't be reasonably misunderstood as such.

Reporting on events for the purpose of news or documentary is allowed as long as the stream is correctly tagged with any applicable content warnings, and any extremely graphic content is censored. If you're unsure, contact us first.

Malware, Scams and Misinformation

  • Presenting information that is reasonably known to be incorrect as fact
  • Promoting or engaging in monetary scams such as pyramid schemes
  • Attempting to scam or deceive other users into revealing sensitive information
  • Directing people to install malware or software designed with malicious intent

Parody and sarcasm is allowed as long as viewers can reasonably understand the joke. Use common sense.

Copyright and DMCA

You're responsible for making sure any content you stream is yours, or that you've gotten permission from others to use theirs. If we receive reports of copyrighted material being used without permission we may have to remove content by interrupting an ongoing stream, or removing public access to a VOD. More information can be found on our DMCA page.

We do not employ automatic content scanning, but will comply with correctly-formatted takedown requests sent to [email protected].

Other Illegal Content

Legality varies between jurisdictions, but in general just make sure not to use Lightspeed to broadcast, promote or engage in criminal activity.
